Re: More Valkyrie Woes, Extras Sue Tom Cruise
No, they COULD have settleed for having all their med bills associated wiht the accident paid in full for, as well as lost wages paid.
I broke some bones in my left fooot at work-I could have sued them too-but didn't! Instead, I chose light duty-which I had until the cast came off-which I think was about 6 weeks-then I returned to full duty. I could also have chosen another route with my injutry, and accepted Workman's Comp, and not having to work for a few months while still getting 3/4th of my pay. I could have sat down at homw, and played my Nintendo 64-and got paid in full for doing so ;-)

Re: More Valkyrie Woes, Extras Sue Tom Cruise
Ah, the amount is fairly irrelevant, you think Cruise deserves the thundering pay-cheque he is going to get for the film? Probably not so who cares. They are trying to get the most they can which is capitalism in action

Re: More Valkyrie Woes, Extras Sue Tom Cruise
Hi Stefan, I agree with you in that I don't feel tom cruise is worth the money he's going to get and do not blame those people for their lawsuit. However, from everything I have read about this movie and causes for its delays, is that it appears to me, that the Germans do not want this movie to be released to the theater-no matter what the cost? That's the problem I have with them and their lawsuits-the blocking of release to a long-anticipated release of another war movie by those who want to see it and also to see it to see how historically correct it is?
I for one, and because I collect WWII German MIlitaria, I wan't to see it for that reason as well as to see how accurate this movie is going to be. Other than that, I can't stand tom cruise.

Re: More Valkyrie Woes, Extras Sue Tom Cruise
I think it is not so much about Tom cruise as a singled out character, but in general in regards to having an actor that can actually put himself into the mindset and educational/historical background of a von Stauffenberg, and whether this is even wanted or promoted by the producers.
Most Germans will be unlike many Americans, emphasizing more on the historical and character issues of the person Stauffenberg then special effects and $ bringing action.
This is probably the reason why a lot of (IMO) very well made German ww2 movies never make it into the US market or even outside of Germany. They are simply too boring in regards to action.
Stauffenberg had served initially in the former 1st Bavarian Ulan Regiment. (After 1919 it’s the Reiter Regiment 17 and after 1936 it is the Kavallerie Regiment 17) This Regiment was one of Imperial Germany’s three most elite and prestigious units. Actually my family history is also closely attached to Bavaria and this unit.
Almost all of the Commanding officers were from aristocratic families and also most of the Officer Corps. Therefore the initial German/Bavarian imperial soldiers and officer codex, as well as the aristocratic mindset were strongly observed and ritualized. It was a great honor to serve in this regiment and ill conduct, misbehavior or a non-soldier and dishonorable attitude was strictly bared from this unit.
So this is the kind of environment that sets the stage for a von Stauffenberg convictions towards the Third Reich and Hitler. After the assassination attempt it was also the 17th that suffered about the highest rate of arrests and court martial’s unlike most other Wehrmacht units.
IMO a Tom Cruise, J. Hartnett, or this Titanic wimp and alike will just never be able to portrait that kind of a character in its true historical proportions.
It would/should have to be a character and high class actor such as C. Heston , G. Peck, J. Coburn or a S. McQueen who could “live” that kind of a person. Amongst today’s Hollywood actors I could only imagine an Ed Harris, Russell Crowe and my personal favorite in this role Joaquin Phoenix.

Kruska

Re: More Valkyrie Woes, Extras Sue Tom Cruise
Kruska, well said on the above. Also, you do have quite good "taste" for some great actors. ;-D I could easily "see" Heston or Harris in the role of Stauffenberg. I also agree with you that there just aint much in the way of talent in hollywoodland these days. Joacuin Phoenix is a darn good actor. Have you seen him in: "I Walk the Line?" I have not seen much of that film but, it is excellent-and it aint the kind of movie im likely to go see.
Back on topic
It would be very easy to see Heston or Harris in that role. As far as I know, Heston never played a German-at least in more modern times but, comparing to how well Harris did as the fictional Major Koenig-in EAtG; he could easily pull it off. Also, I might add that I think that Robert Duval might be able to have done that role about 20 years ago.

Hello C. Evans,
yes you are correct - totally forgot about Robert Duvall. AFAIK C. Heston had a strong dislike for Germans - somewhere or someone told me this - because just as you noticed, Heston never played a German role or part.
Well maybe he would have accepted the part of Stauffenberg

Ja, they want us all to vergessen Sie why WWII started Kameraden !! Dont you know that? It was all our fault, thats why we apologize for fire bombing Dresden, nuking Hiroshima, etc, and our new friends/old enemies never come out and say theyre sorry for anything. They dont want people to remember the truth, they want it to fade into the yellow pages of History (Like I wish Tom Cruise would) so noone will remember those nutsy nazis

First ole Tommy was a “last Samurai” and now he’s a German officer during WWII??? Is this the best those loons out in moonbat land can do for a WWII movie? Give ME a break! I just watched the trailer and farted so hard from laughing that I must go and check my drawers!
