Calling all "recruits"
Due to a bunch of very dedicated spammers and a few ignorant ass-hats, all new members will now be known as "recruits" and will be treated as such until they have shown that they are willing to positively contribute to the WWII Forums.
A new member will remain a "recruit" until they have been registered for three full days and have made five posts. Both the 3 days and the 5 posts must be satisfied for a member to be promoted to full member status.
A member who sits in recruit status will be unable to use some of the features of the boards (email to other members, restricted Private Messages, etc), but once a Rogue is becomes a full member they will have full access to these features.
So if you are a long serving Rogue who's got only two posts and now face a boring Private Message and email-less existence here on the WWII Forums, go ahead and dive into the threads guns blazing! Grab hold of your own fate, leave the boring life of a recruit behind you and join the noble (and feared) ranks of WWII Forums members!
This message is brought to you by your local chapter of Rogues for Forum Hygiene.

I'm glad you are being proactive...spammers (XXX) are ruining the WW2inColor Talk Forum. I can't let my son use the forum because of the porno images.

Re: Calling all "recruits"
Thanks, Otto - this was inevitable, we have been inundated with idiots and rubbish since the beginning of the year. Hopefully, this should help to sort out the people who have a genuine interest from the internet morons.....

Re: Calling all "recruits"
Thanks all for the comments. This will indeed help keep the boards "clean" so to speak.
I think it is important to note that thanks to the diligence of the OKF (our moderating team), we are accessible by many schools and businesses, unlike other similar message boards.

I did know that! That's fantastic! It's nice to know that somewhere teachers and students can access this site for some good info!

Re: Calling all "recruits"
This is a reminder to all our newer members and/or those with less that 5 posts that until you do have 5 posts you will not get the full functionality of these forums.
5 posts + 3 days = full membership

Re: Calling all "recruits"
I got an idea for you otto.
I have noticed that a few new recruits have a tendacy to start arguments with the other members whether it is about opinions, beliefs, politics or just in general, they sometimes get out of hand and just create annouance amongst the rest of us and we get off topic and it can lead to the thread being closed.
So what about for every new recruit having to be 'sworn' in type of thing where they have to be nominated by an already member or a moderator, based on posts and information and there manners? This way if you you want to do is read then you can, but If you want to be a commited member of this forum you have to be accepted?

Re: Calling all "recruits"
Hear, hear!
I agree with the principle in general but I suppose it will be a bit troublesome to implement. In any case this applies to a few isolated cases, the general crop on new members in the last few months has been of a pleasantly very high level, without going into names.
The eagle eyes of our Moderating Corps have shown to be more than enough able to sort the wheat from the chaff (window, flares and other active and passive ESM).
Some Pos Rep in your way for commitment

Re: Calling all "recruits"
As Za says, this is in theory a very good idea but the actual implementation may cause real difficulty.
I guess that until something better comes along, I'll stick to the more traditional methods.....

Re: Calling all "recruits"
It's a great idea, but as martin says a review process for ever member would require a full time attention. It's not possible to review everyone, but it only takes 1 click to summon der PzPenguin to take care of business.

Re: Calling all "recruits"
Er, as he was shot down in flames can you please cancel the Pos Rep I gave to Tomcat and replace it with Neg Rep? I like to be on the winning side
