Greetings all,
I am writing a historical/fantasy short story and I'm trying to find out some information about what islands were occupied or friendly towards Garmany at the very near of the war (say, 1st few weeks in May)
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers!

Welcome to the forums Digger.
Check out the book England Under Hitler by Comer Clarke. I don't believe it's published anymore, but it highlights how the germans gathered inteligence about britain, Operation Sea Lion, the plan to capture the royal family, what the government would have been like, the german plan to repopulate Britain through forced prostitution, and the german occupation of the channel islands.

There were a lot of isles who where in German's posession at the end of the war:
- isles(from the Netherlands)
- Norwegian isles
- Danish isles
- Greece isles
I don't know which ones, but there are probably more.

Don't forget the Channel Islands, they remained in German hands until after the end of the war.

The Greek Isles had been abandoned in late 1944 as well as the other german forces from the Balcans to prevent being encircled by the Red Army.
I can think about the Canarias (Spain) which, even if not occupied were very frequently visited by German U-boat crews to re-supply of water and food.

What about Namibia? That used to be a German colony. I don't know if it still was one in WW2. They might have been forced to give it up after WW1, but I know there still live "VolksDeutschers" who have close emotional ties to Imperial Germany.

Thanks for that one Redcoat. I wasn't sure, but I think we would have read something about a German submarine refuel-base in Namibia if it was still German in WW2. Or the Allies occupying it or something.

No, no, no, No.9....
But I thought it was the closest to what Digger was looking for. As he wanted something 'Western Part Africa, Southern Atlantic'....And an fictious island is quickly 'made up'...
I could have suggested the Falklands! But then he would have to made up the occuation of those islands. One way or the other, somethings HAS to be made up...

How do you mean "...somethings has to be made up."?

Understand Stev. How about Atlantis? You could make it like Brigadoon, you know, only appears at certain times. You could have Adolf escaping there and anyone else they couldn't produce the bones for? Make it contemporary, add Elvis, Lord Lucan and the crew of the Marie Celeste - yeah!

Oeh, interesting concept, kinda like Indiana Jones meets Thule society...Well, that's been done before...
...But I think you're on to something here! And all of these intertwine and all of a sudden a lot of dissaperances and the Ancient secrets get revealed! Melting icecaps on Antartica revealing the ancient and mythical creatures and civilization that Admiral Bird talked about on his live radio broadcats before he was cut off....
All becomes clear!

Oh really, I was trying to be constructive and you bring Captain Birdseye into this! (KÄPT'N IGLU if you prefer)
Who really cares if he's the Captain of the fish-finger!
Anyway, why aren't you getting ready to meet Martin? Must be plenty of dykes he could stick his finger in? (that would give him a real fish finger!) :-D
