Art Morneweck is an unknown quantity at this point
My brother Robert Morneweck, 101st Air Borne was KIA 4-13-45 crossing Rhine River. I just learned that a school teacher was taking care of his grave at Margraten,Holland 1945. I contacted a travel agent fra11@travelin-tigers.com and told them in 1945 Emmy-Heymens, 156 Bunders, Meerssen,Holland was the only information I had.. They contacted a collegue in his seventies and new a lot of people in Meerssen. His daughter checked the address and a Mr. Heynens lived there but died many years ago.. Then I received a e-mail saying “we found her !!!” Emmy was pleasantly surprised and I now had her address. Emmy was a teacher at a boys school in Margraten, when she heard you could adopt a grave and she adopted my brothers grave. Emmy put flowers on the grave and corresponded with my mother and father.

Emmy married in 1953 and her husband died in 1995. She has two children a girl named Emmy in 1960, and a boy named Ludo in 1961. Emmy lives single and Ludo is married. They both live near their mother.. Mother Emmy has no computer but her son and daughter do, so I corresponded through them. Also Ludo’s wife Renate.

Emmy is a senior and is going to sell her house and get a senior apartment. Her house has 10 rooms,2 staircases, a big garden and 2 car garage. I have some pictures of Emmy putting flowerson my brothers grave,of her chuch inMeerssen. If it was not for the inter-net I never would have had contact with a wonderful family of Emmy Fransen-Heijnens

That is a really good story, Art! I have been able to communicate with a lot of people through the internet who I otherwise wouldn't have 'met'.

Very good to know that Emmy has taken the trouble to take care of your brother's grave in particular.

As to your latest e-mail: Yes, I would love to receive a copy. I hope to have our e-mail problem fixed soon.

Stevin

Your story illustrates very well why seniors should make the effort to learn the basics of email and internet. I hope you encourage your friends Art, though if you meet the problems I do, it’s a tough job. There seems to be a problem with going the full 10 yards. I find of those who can be persuaded to get a machine, over half seem to reach a stop after they learn to receive an email. Sending a mail or replying to one, or surfing the net remain alien magic.

Then again, anyone, whatever age, searching via the net needs the right search engines, and, needs to ask the right questions.

Unfortunately, for those perusing WWII research, very few Veterans use a computer. I often wonder what level of reality or understanding/education so many young people seem to have, when all too often I see a post asking something like; ”My grandfather was Joe Smith and he was killed in the Philippines in WWII. Does anyone know him or can anyone tell me what he did?” You can spend your evenings replying and trying to explain how to go about constructive research, otherwise they stand as much chance as being hit by a satellite.

However, one should never give up. While exploring a remote possibility I happened upon a message from a man who sounded like he was from 3 Troop, No.10 Commando (IA). Considering there were less than 100 to start with, then the war fatalities (which were many), then still being alive and well, and, on the internet!!! I personally know only one though he’s not on the net. Well, after emailing each other a few questions and answers which aren’t in books, he turned out to be pure gold.

Glad your search had a happy ending Art.

No. 9, inter-net is great Last year I put on net asaking if anyone was in air cadet in 1943 at Gettysburg College. I was there at that time and got a e-mail from Don Murray. He was not only in my class 55 CTD , but on same floor of our Dorm and I never knew him. There were about 900 cadets. Don and I had a few e-mail
conversations. If you want to hear a good story about Don Search for "The Awful AWOL Christmas"

Thanks for the story Art, a good read. Thinking of other incidents, some of which I was party to, I fully expect your comrade was never missed at all.
