Pre-Flight Maxwell Field,Alabama

Between college and actually flying a plane they had pre-flight. This was to teach you to eat a square meal and be a gentleman.. The square meal was to put some food on you fork, raise it straight up ,then straight back to your mouth. Sit straight up in you chair, cadet officer’s walked be-hind you and put a stick down the back of your chair to make sure you were not leaning back on the back of your chair. . Sure it was chicken sh__ but they tried to brake you.. In my senor moments I wonder did this really happen in 1944 and I say I dunno. . We also had guard duty and PT. We were put in a decompressor chamber were you had to wear oxygen mask. Instructor had one student un-tie his shoe

And they removed his mask, in a few seconds he stopped, they put his mask back on and he continued tieing his shoe, he did not know he had stopped tieing.. There was a large swimming pool, but it was for officers and their family.

We didn't lose any one from hazzing. You got use to it, and would laugh on the in-side.There was no physical treatment just mental.
