Is there not some jumping to conclusions here?
On September 4, 1922 two motorcycle enthusiasts, William Lyons and William Walmsley, set up the Swallow Sidecar Company to produce sidecars for motorcycles. In 1926 the company first went into cars building the small Austin Seven. The company continued to make sidecars until the advent of WWII when it went over to war production.
The name Jaguar was
used for the first time in 1935. The firm's production included limousines, convertibles, and sports cars fitted with 1.5-litre, 2.5-litre, and 3.5-litre engines. The most notable vehicle of the period was the 3.5-litre SS 100 model. After the war, the company's name was changed to Jaguar Cars Ltd as it felt their future lay in the more lucrative field of car production than motorcycle sidecars.
In Britain a number of manufacturers produced models of cars and motorcycles with the title SS which stood, usually, for Super Sport or Sports Special. Correct to say however, no one produced a model they badged Gestapo!
