I was pretty surprised to learn that the Car giant Herny Ford was a pretty strong anti-semite. Among other anti-semite actions, he published a 4-volume book called "The International Jew: The World’s Problem." in the 1920s

Andy, I've also heard that about Ford. Actually he was so against most religions such as Jewish, Christian and Catholic that he hired only Arab Muslims to work in his factories. This took place in Deerborn, Michigan and that city is now the most heavily populated city containing Muslims. Ironic!

A well-known anti-semite, Henry Ford, published anti-Jewish slanders and was awarded the highest medal Hitler could award a foreigner (The Grand Cross of the German Eagle). Ford was even named in Hitler's auto-biography, Mein Kampf, as the only man in America who was fully independent from Jewish control.

A US Army report shows Ford, the company, as an enthusiastic supporter of Hitler's regime whose German division made huge profits in becoming an "arsenal of Nazism."

Like GM, Ford claims to have lost control of its German division, Fordwerke, before it started using forced labor. However, according to a well-researched and damning report in The Nation, "Robert Schmidt, the man appointed to run Ford Werke in 1939, states that the company used forced laborers even before the Nazis put the plant in trusteeship." Ford also placed a rabid Nazi as head of Fordwerke, and US Government documents show that Ford was in constant communication with the Ford plants in Nazi-occupied Vichy France.

From a US Forces report on Fordwerke: "Of the 350,000 trucks which the motorized German army possessed in 1942, 100,000 to 120,000 were Ford-built. Of the Wehrmacht's total of 650,000 mobile units of all kinds, 15 to 20% were built by Ford, including approximately 10,000 half-trucks."

It's interesting to note that while Americans of Japanese ancestry were rounded up and placed in camps by the US government, large companies like Ford were allowed to help build the Nazi military without much interference.

I wouldn't rely on that source since the statement above cannot be true. There was no forced labour in Germany outside the concentration camps in 1939.

And the nazis made free use of Ford factories not because Henry Ford allowed them to do so. As in everything, they used menaces and terror. It's the same thing with the factories of Peugeot, Citroën, Renault and Fiat which produced war material for the Germans under German occupation.

Not to get off topic but, itsn't this whole Henry Ford thing kinda like how Charles Lindburg went over to Germany to talk about how good the German aircraft was? How much of a Nazi supporter was he anyways?

Pretty much, as neither of them would have turned their backs on their country. I think that they agreed with some of Hitlers ideas but not the slaughtering of European Jewry. I think they or at least Ford, just did not care much for the Jews--as was a popular feeling during those times.

Go back to the 1870, 1880s, many in this country hated the Irish. Why? I don't know.

I've read that Ford used to send Hitler annual birthday presents up until 1944.

The discrimination of the Irish in the US can date back to even before the 1870s, more around the 1840s-50s. They used smoothbore muskets in the Irish Brigade to prove their bravery and manhood.
