Not sure if this has already been discussed{I'm new} but what do you think of Goring and why did Hitler put up with him?He failed at the battle of Britian and then to look good, promised to supply the 6th Army even though it was never possible. After Stalingrad, did he ever contribute anything to the war effort?I read something that THE major reason for not breaking out of Stalingrad was the "material"they'd leave behind ie.tanks and so forth. What do you guys think? framert.

I'd say Hermann Goering was basically useless, but Hitler hung on to him for so long out of misplaced loyalty to an "old fighter" who'd been with him since before the Beer-Hall Putsch days.

Just my two pfennigs.

Yours,
Paul

I think Göring was of huge help during the 1930´s but after Dunkirk failure he did not do much except give empty promises as he thought that would please Hitler and put him in better position in Hitler´s eyes. After Stalingrad he had totally lost his face, I think.Because of the long comradeship Hitler could not though kick him out of his job, which seems quite interesting as everybody else was replaceable.

For Stalingrad: First there was Hitler´s order, and then by Mid-Dec 1942 they did not have the fuel anymore to make it west to meet Hoth´s panzers, and soon they did not have the vehicles or tanks either.

Hello KIA! Maybe I'll find it by the time u reply but is there a Stalingrad discussion here somewhere?I'm a real "novice" compared to u guys here as u can tell by my posts. I love reading about the Eastern front and I have a nagging question.Do you suppose the Germans would have fought harder if they had known they'd be marched back to Russia for another 4-5 years? In other words,it's the last days of 1945 with the Russians in Berlin and they figured surrendering meant IT was over and had no idea they'd be marched all the way back to Russia. What do you think? framert.

Hello Framert!

If you want to search earlier threads just check the right corner of the page and there you can notice the "search" button. Click it, and put the theme that you want to discuss and now you can find it in our earlier postings.

The Germans knew they´d end up in "Siberia" so they fought as hard as they could in the east. After making horrible crimes they knew as well they´d get it in return as well. Goebbels used this in his propaganda and that´s why the German civilians fled to the west by the millions.

And if you want to know about the Ostfront the "Russia at war" is the place to be for you.
