Hi... Just got back from Washington D.C. tonight... and while I was there I asked our group "whatever happened to that WWII memorial that was going to be built?". No one knew the answer and I said I would check it out when I got back home! Well... I found the websight... saw the forum link... and thought... "I wonder if anyone might remember my Father?" His health is very bad... and If anyone reading this remembers Lester "Bobo" Johnson from Jacksonville Fla., I would sure like to hear from you. He wanted to be Navy Pilot... but the program he wanted signed up too many men (or so he was told)... and so he chose submarine duty. He played alot of ball sports in highschool and was very athletic... in the Navy I believe he was a signalman at one time. He has often told us about an incident on a very old training sub where water started leaking into some tanks(?)... causing the sub to dive farther than it should have. Apparently the captain froze... and due to some quick thinking of a crewmember on the bridge... air was released to (?)counter the water.... anyway... they managed to right the sub... got back to the docks... and a week or so later while the hulls were being sandblasted... they blasted a hole through the ships hull. In other words- they should have imploded... but by God's grace did not.
Sorry to take so long... any feedback is appreciated. My Father will probably never participate in this... but if I can pass along anything that might spark him up a bit... it will be worthwhile. Thank you.
