Howdy All,

Been way to busy for the ol puter of late but glad to be back [img]smile.gif[/img] .

Recently I recieved yet more items that belonged to my Father who landed at Oran Algeria in Nov. of 1942 & fought through N. Africa, Sicily, Silerno, Anzio etc. till WWII ended.

In the items I recieved I found a gold Swastica lapel pin but more importantly I found a Nazi Medal, the lower section is about one inch across and shaped like the Iron Cross, the upper section has a Skull & Crossbones (which I believe is the Nazi Werewolf emblem) that swivels from the mounting pin.
The funny thing about the Medal is that on one side of the Cross is lettering (like a family crest) while the reverse is plain, however, the only way to discern the Skull & Crossbones is by pinning the plain side out.

Could this actually be a Nazi Werewolf Medal ?
Any help to identify the Medal would be much appreciated.

Never heard of a thing like a "Nazi Werwolf medal".

Given the character of this organization (planned secret partisan movement, a medal would be a bit contra-productive, I guess) and their almost non-existance ("phantasy organisation") it would seem to me like winning the lottery and getting stroke by a lightning on the same day to have a "werwolf medal".

But we have folks here who are really buffs in this medal things, they might help you more.

Could it just be froma panzer unit there symbol was a scull and cross bones with the heer troops having no bottom jaw and the SS having a bottom jaw. (I read this in a book)

Thank's Andy, I to wondered about the possibility of a Werewolf Medal but because the guerrilla movement was founded by Heinrich Himmler I thought it might be possible.

Good info AC and a good lead, my Father was with the 1ST Armored so he had many confrontations with a Panzer units, the Skull does have a bottom jaw so it might very well be an SS medal.

As for the explanation on that medal, can you give me diminsions of it? Length and width.

Can yopu also give me more detailed description?

The reason I ask is because it from what I can tell is definately not a military award of anykind. It sounds to me like it is possibly a vets organization badge, or possibly an un-official unit badge of sometype.

Are there any words on it? and if so, what are they?

The medal is about 1 inch from side to side on the Iron Cross section.
One side of the cross is plain with no engraving but the other has a Knights Shield bisected by what appears to be axes with the lettering FBC located in three corners of the shield.
The Shied & Axes are surrounded by an inlaid blue circle.
The Skull & Crossbones are mounted by a swivel pin from the top of the cross.
When viewing the medal from the 'Shield' side the Skull & Crossbones are not recognisable but when flipped over to the 'Plain' side the Skull & Crossbones jump out at you [img]smile.gif[/img] .

I think you might very well be right about this Carl, let me know what you think.

This medal seems to be somekind of veterans association medal. I have never seen one like yours is described. There can be possibly hundreds of different designs for Vets Assn badges. I have one that is for the Imperial German Army's 51st Infantry Division. This is a gold shield with the name of the division on it and on the shield at top, are crosses swords. I also have a matching mini stickpin as well.

Does your badge look old or have anything on it that appears to be somekind of Imperial symbol on it? Such as a crown or a cross? Now the Skull and Crossbones symbols were always used for Cavalry Regiments and Divisions, such as a unit from Brunswick.

I wish you could show a pic of it as my interest has been piqued.

That's about all I can think it could be for unless, it is some sort of Imperial Police Fraternal Order of somekind, OR, it could be somekiind of Patriotic Badge? The Germans made tons of Patriotic items--which were sold in order to help fund the German war effort---much like our Bond Drives in ww2 did.

Howdy Carl,

The Medal does look old with wear showing on the edges of the cross, the Knights Shield does have what appers to be a Knights Helmet connected to the top of the Shield.

My Father died in 1955 so I'm not sure if he belonged to any organizations other than the 1ST Armored Div. Association.

I do have other items that belonged to my Father but all his WWII items were always kept separate.

I heard on a talk show today that 27,000 GI's were killed in Germany & Japan after WWII. Have a real hard time believing that number.

Anybody have any info on the real numbers.

Bush's camp keeps trying to compare Iraq to postwar Germany & Japan, and I'm not buying it.
