What are the biggest new things about WW2 you learned from the Forums or while being a member here?
I´ll start with:
1. Japanese used shallow water torpedoes in Pearl Harbor
2. Schräge Musik
3. Kharkov battles in spring 1943

Well, I learned that the Russians won the war single handed.....then I learned it was actually the Poles.
I'm just waiting for someone to agree with me that the British actually won the war!

I learned how many languages the European members can speak, including the General, and how dumb as far a Americans go to learning new languages.
I learned much new aircraft knowledge thru Martin and the resident art critic in the Northwest.
I learned how emotional WWII politics can be, ie.Poland in WWII.
I learned there are still smart people in the world. (can't seem to find any at home today)

This was a good thread which disappeared in the Great Crash of '04 !
I continue to learn things such as ; -
How good 'Downfall' was, long before it reached UK cinemas
How sensitive to WWII history other Nations can be !
But still the greatest thing is to have learned, through this forum, that 'their' Nightfighter crews were not heartless monsters shooting down 'our' bombers : the men in the aircraft shared much the same hopes and fears, and respected each others' courage.

Historian.....Of course we British won the war....
Errr....just out to buy a hoodie thingy so no one can recognise me now....
Actually according to an old colleague of mine from many years ago, it was the Indian nation that won the war against Japan at any rate.
But for my tuppence in all seriousness..although Britain in 1940 could not win the war she could hae certainly lost it for all of us.
Year later, although we could not win the war on our own, we certainly in my view could no longer lose it either.
As to what the forum has taught me....Strategic bombing of Germany was not the be all and end all I thought it to be....And although Stalingrad was in my head as it should be for anyone who is interested in the war, Stalingrad was not a great priority in my own mind on as to what helped us all to win the war....Thanks to the forum...It is now.

Brittany 1944
A key objective in Brittany was the creation of a new port facility, Operation Chastity, at Quiberon Bay, on the Brittany peninsula. If secured in the early days of the breakout, Operation Chastity would have provided a key logistics source for Allied operations against Germany.

Hello all!! I'am new here, and I couldn't find a thread to introduce myself. So here I go. I'am a 28 year old Canadian that loves info about WW2. If I would classify myself it would be an avid gamer of WW2 games. I enjoy tactical and strategy information from WW2. I'am always tring to learn more about who won, how did they, do it, and why. So I'am just saying hi..and hope to see you often.
Thanks

Hi! Welcome to the friendliest forum in WW2 (I mean the other guys, not me!). There's a lot of in depth knowledge going about here, feel free to ask and ye shall certainly be answered.
What did I learn here? I am thankful for the depth of analysis on the West Front (for me, "East" front for the rest of you ), but I also like very much to browse on the Pacific war sections as I know practically nothing about the region.
I also found a new constellation of Good Guys !

Booo!
The British were involved in WW2? Wow, that's news!
Other than some *incredibly* interesting specifics on various battles, operations, theaters, personalities, and technology, there's a couple general things I learned.
Once a WW2 buff, always a WW2 buff- and this forum is always one of the best places to come for info and discussion.
And there's *always* more to learn!
Tho... I never did really learn how many Tiger tanks the germans actually produced...
(kidding, KIDDING!)
hopefully, now that I'm back to doing some reading and whatnot, I'll be posting again regularly.
Cheers!

It's still safe- I don't think I've gotten in any sort of "internet argument" since back in the days of Knight Templar!
Well- other than putting Yankee fans in their place and educating New England Patriots non-believers...
Got married (good god!), did a bunch of online gaming, drank a lot of beer... but this past christmas, the father-in-law grabbed me Fowler and Bean's Russian Tanks of WW2... and... well...
Looking like the "main hobby" is heading back to WW2
And to avoid a total hijack- another new thing I learned from here-
The russo-finnish war. Although I still know very little about the Winter War, before these forums I hadn't bothered to learn anything at all about it.
Learning about that was an amazing story of the perserverence and skill of the Finnish soldiers.
(edits post... Not to worry tho, Martin- I'm still "colorful" enough to be worth keeping! )
