WE have several topics on pics of Mannerhiem and Kursk so I thought I would start a topic were we can post any interesting pictures we come across on our travels...

A Japanese plane shot down as it attempted to attack the USS KITKUN BAY near the Mariana Islands. June 1944.

A Befelswagen in Poland

The depot ship is HMS Forth, and the submarine on the extreme right, showing off the White Ensign, is HMS Graph - formerly the German U570. She was forced to the surface by depth charges from a Hudson of 269 Squadron. The Germans hoisted the white flag, and the Hudson circled the boat until a Catalina arrived to take over the watch until armed trawlers arrived on 27th August 1941. They took the crew off and towed the U-boat to Iceland, where she was beached. Although the crew had destroyed all the important documents, the submarine itself gave the Navy important information about the boat's capabilities. The other submarines; the middle one is an 'S' class submarine, and the one on the left is one of the 'R' class boats. The photograph was taken in Holy Loch, on the Firth of Clyde, in June 1943.

Will try and find the PM that Stefan sent me on posting pics! It explains it rather well! But basically...

Right click on Picture
Goto Properties
Highlight the HTTP bit at the top and right click on it and select 'copy'
Then on the 'Full Reply Form' select image and paste in the http!

Hope that makes sense its all a bit new to me!

TA152...

I think after scanning you will need to find somewhere to post them on the net... I know Mahross has a site, he is posting up some pics for me of my Great Uncle in Iraq in 1916, and I am sure others here could help out!

RED

Those last pics were a BIT too BIG!!!

War's darker side... Dachau...

The photo above shows about 60 dead or wounded German guards lying at the base of a long wall. Only about one fourth of the total length of the wall is visible. A machine gunner crouches over a model 1919A4 machine gun, center foreground. The four German soldiers still standing and three or four of their fallen comrades at left who are still alive were shot only seconds after this photo was taken. A hospital building can be seen at right. (Photo by Arland B. Musser, US Signal Corps. Courtesy National Archives, Washington D.C.)

I'm no rocket scientist, but don't you think the TA Super Lorin looks a bit tail heavy ?

Maybe the heavy tail was to aid take off!!!

Mkenny

Interesting stuff, so is there a conclusion as to what happened? I know if i had been there I would have shot all the guards I could find... Must have been horrific to just walk into Dachau and to witness those scenes first hand.
