The areas of the UK coastline supposedly had the means of setting the sea alight around incoming craft. If this was so and the Germans were aware (Holkham/Shingle Street)then why was this weapon not used on the Atlantic Wall?

Perhaps due to the large amouts of fuel/oil required which the Germans could not spare, but I am not entirely sure the Germans were aware of such devices. If they were it seems a waste of precious German fuel, not to mention the amount of pipelines you would need for the whole Atlantic wall. If they had used it then it would probably have been restricted to the Pas De Calais area as this was ttheir heaviest fortified part of the Atlantic wall and where they expected invasion.

By the way, welcome to the forums Colin!

Shingle street is a war-time myth. There was no attack on this beach.
In fact there were no German landings on the British mainland at all during WW2

Forum member 'Hoppy' had been doing some research about Shingle Street but, sad to say, we haven't seen him hereabouts for a while.....
