Wow - this is an interesting piece indeed !
Firstly, it is
not a Bofors, which was usually 40mm calibre. This 3.7" gun was designed by Vickers-Armstrongs and went into production in 1937, staying in production until 1945 and not being finally declared obsolete until 1959.
It was probably the best British AA gun of WWII, and a frequent 'what if?' raised about this weapon is whether it could have doubled up as a very effective Anti-Tank weapon, as happened with the legendary German '88'.
On paper, the idea is tempting - but in practise, the carriage was too heavy and complex to be suited to field tactical use.
