steven is an unknown quantity at this point
i have just found this on EBAY, wouldnt this make a great conversation peice in the garden!! can anyone answer a couple of questions i have on this subject, is this what would have been at most AA batterys and was this known as a BOFORS gun

Wow - this is an interesting piece indeed !

Firstly, it is not a Bofors, which was usually 40mm calibre. This 3.7" gun was designed by Vickers-Armstrongs and went into production in 1937, staying in production until 1945 and not being finally declared obsolete until 1959.

It was probably the best British AA gun of WWII, and a frequent 'what if?' raised about this weapon is whether it could have doubled up as a very effective Anti-Tank weapon, as happened with the legendary German '88'.

On paper, the idea is tempting - but in practise, the carriage was too heavy and complex to be suited to field tactical use.

Again - it's a very interesting piece.....

Very interesting yes, but obviously nothing has been done to keep it in any kind of condition (?), at least according to the picture.
