This Yank 8th Air Force B-17 navigator (35 missions against the 3rd Reich) will be answering questions, participating in forums and generally trying very hard not to make too much a fool of himself at the Flying Legends Air Show at Duxford on July 9 and at the Aircrew Forum at Bletchley Hall on July 12. Perhaps some of you blokes may wish to meet with me. I trust this may be a bit different reception than I received in '44.

Hi Sam,

I understand you are to meet the queen during your visit to England!? And representing the 91st BG during that visit?

I hope to catch a glimpse of her. I have been invited along with a thousand other veterans to have lunch at Buckingham Palace at 2 pm, July 12. You can bet that if I have the opportunity I will convey greetings from the 91st. As I've said, this sure beats my U.K. reception in '44

As someone who will be at both Duxford and Milton Keynes - but not, alas, at Buckingham Palace ( ) - I think I can guarantee that you won't have to buy too much beer while you're over here !

At last - I've been a member of this forum for three years, and I finally got to meet a fellow-contributor....

Not only that, but the gentleman was 84 years old, and met me by the Control Tower at Duxford at the appointed time (to the minute!) having travelled all the way from Florida. And then he sits with me for 45 minutes in a hospitality unit, patiently enduring all my questions and answering every one.

Oh - and the last time he visited Duxford was in 1944.

I truly Mr Sam Halpert - it was a real privilege to meet him.

Thanks, Sam.
