Hi to all,
I'm new to the list so I'm posting in the general section for now until I find my way around.
I have been researching my husbands family line for the last year. His father served throughout WW2 enlisting underage but like a lot of soldiers never mentioned anything about the war so we have no information, no regiment or theatre of war details. All we know is he lived in Islington, London when he joined up and lied about his age. I am hoping to get information about his dad who is now dead but I'm looking for advice from the people here who I'm sure are very knowledgable.
The address I have is for Kentigern House in Glasgow but on reading around a lot of people complained they waited 6 months or more and got hardly any information for the fee. Is this my only route?
Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks Val.

Hi Val and welcome to the forums.
Without any information it is going to be worse than a needle in a haystack. But maybe you can try this first:

Hi Stevin,
thanks for the reply.
We have his father's birth certificate and so hopefully this might help as he was still living at the same address in Islington when he joined up. His parents names as next of kin will help too hopefully.
Thanks again for the link, I'll check it out.
Kind regards Val.

Hi to all,
well things got a bit held up with a couple of relatives who decided to depart right on Christmas but I'm now ready to send off for my father-in-laws army records. It says on the official site that the information you receive back is quite brief so please can you give me some pointers on what you would ask as it says they will answer direct questions providing they're not too personal, lol.
I was thinking along the lines of:
What regiment? (will get that anyway I'm sure)
Theatre of war?
Ideas most welcome, thanks Val.

The records of all WW2 British servicemen are still held by MOD and researchers or museums cannot access them. For some ideas of what do to see:

Hi to all,
thanks lazybather for your assistance, much appreciated!
Historical Disclosures at Glasgow has found my father-in-law in their records from the brief info we had, so success!
He served in The Queens Regiment and his service no was 6153424. They sent the usual info that they don't hold as much info as everyone thinks they do but we will still pay the £30 and see what we get back. They have also suggested we try the Regimental War Diaries held at Kew for info about his experiences & theatre of war info. So another avenue to explore.
As always thanks to all for your help and I'll keep you informed when I get more info.
I'm going with Noth Africa for his war years, just a hunch as he went to Rhodesia to live in 1945 after being demobbed, returning to Britain in 1975.
Cheers!
