Nice postcards of fascist propaganda
TA. I’d say the teeth pulling is being done on John Bull,
aka England. The ship through the chain surely refers to the Mediterranean which, although there was a sizeable French fleet there, Mussolini felt was restricted by the British while they held Gibraltar. Even after Mussolini declared war on Britain at a stage when he believed Italy could achieve something by siding with the then overwhelmingly victorious Hitler, he continued to make overtures to Britain offering to rescind the declaration if they could come to a seeding agreement over Gib.
The red devil on the stork is interesting. My guess is it’s a general image rather than one taken from any squadron. A ‘red devil’ is a fairly common symbol in Italian culture. It doesn’t imply evil in any way, rather naughtiness at one end of the symbolism ranging up to ferocity at the other. The reference to the stork is fairly certain to be to the Fiat BR.20 Cicogna medium bomber –
Ciogna being Italian for Stork.
Not very good but bombed England they did.
