I came across this interesting site that has a list of words used in the RAF. Some I have heard of but others such as "Champagne Glass" I have not heard of before.

It is a big help for us poor Americans who have not learned England "English" yet.

It's amazing how many of those expressions are now in everyday use.

Yes many are now standard brevity codes used in military airforces

this one is fun :
chum - equivalent to the American "buddy"

it comes from french speaking Canadian (Quebec)

I agree, both my grandfathers used to refer to the technical types as 'boffins' and this has rubbed off on both my father and I, and I noticed my 10yr son referring to my Amatuer radio colleagues the other day as 'boffins' go figure.

I think that this was probably a fairly widely used phase though cause neither of the old fellas were in the Air Force.

Still pretty cool to know that things do carry on
