Default Stalin tried to make peace with the Germans?

According to a military historian called Vikor Anfilov, Zhukov overheard Stalin saying "Get in touch with German intelligence through our agents and find out what demands Germany and Hitler would make if we were to propose a peace treaty" before entering the room to meet Stalin. That historian claims that he was informed this by Zhukov himself in the 1960s.

I read somewhere that there were meeetings between the Russians and Germans taking place at some restaraunt in Bulgaria as the Germans approached Moscow. That was the only book that I ever read anything like that but now cannot remember the name.

Do you mean the meeting between a Soviet intelligent officer and an ambassador of Bulgaria in a Georgian restaurant in Moscow?

I read ( also included in earlier postings here in the Forums somewhere with the source mentioned ) that the last negotiations probes ( Stockholm?) from the Soviet side were during spring 1943 after the Kharkov battles. After Kursk, naturally, Stalin was not interested anymore in peace talks.

I'm sure I heard some where Stalin put out peace feelers in Hitler's direction in the Autumn/Winter of 1944 which were flatly rejected by Hitler. But I never seen any hard evidence this ever happen.

That may have been it. Do you have any details on that meeting?

Pardon me, but what is the logic of Stalin sending out peace feelers in Winter 1944, when his troops were already well outside the Soviet frontiers and pushing? Socialist Christmas spirit, perhaps?

probably it was Hitler who rejected any peace negotiations, as several German high ranked nazis among them Ribbentrop tried to make contact but Hitler always refused beforehand any such attempts.

It seems almost everybody had their own solo project to make peace: Göring, Himmler, Ribbentrop etc. But not Hitler.
