Default Did you know?

That Canada in WW2 had aircraft carriers!!

Light carriers:
HMCS Warrior: Colossus class light carrier in service from 1946 to 1948
HMCS Magnificent: Majestic class carrier in service from 1946 to 1956
HMCS Bonaventure: Majestic class carrier in service from 1957 to 1970

Escort carriers of the Royal Navy crewed by Royal Canadian Navy personnel:
HMS Puncher: Bogue class escort carrier in service from 1944 to 1946
HMS Nabob: Bogue class escort carrier in service from 1943 to 1944

Don't know if the escort carriers really count as they belonged to the UK?? But were commanded and crewed by the Royal Canadian Navy.

The Canadian governement started to dismantle the RCN as the years past. Some even beleive that the pressure from the U.S. had something to do with the dismantling of the 3rd largest navy in the world after WW2 was over.

Just a fun fact that some of you might have not known.

Cheers

Maybe since they worht both crewed by the Canadians, but not built by them you could cout them them both as 1 (.5+.5=1). Then again they were only lescot carriers and not full fledged ones so maybe it should only be .5 total.

I dont know why the US would want Canada to dismantle thier navy. I was under the imperssion that Britain, US, and Canada were good friends. I personaly would think that Canadas budget would have been the main reason why they would cut back their Navy, that and the US would protect them.

Sad note that behind US, GB Canada had the next biggest navy at that time.

After the war they built one of the best fighter aircraft on the planet, only to have the government cancel it. They settled for the very inferior CF-101. The reason given was the soviets had a spy in the factory but that does not make much sense to me. The Avro Arrow and the British TSR-2 are interesting what if's.

The Dates you give place the Canadian Aircraft Carriers outside of World War II...all those Light Carriers you have mentioned have dates in 1946+...i imagine that the length of their service might have also had to do with the Cold War in some aspect.
