That's very interesting information, nice find. In contrast my father was stationed in Wurzburg in 47-49, Army Finance. Their offices employed a young German woman whom he befriended, teaching her English and vice versa. Officers took advantage of the opportunity by having my father join them on trips and in meetings as a translator. Drivers for their motor-pool were previous SS who spoke fluent English without an accent.
