Monument at Omaha Beach ?
On a recent visit to Omaha Beach i came across this monument (situated behind houses at the Les Moulins/Dog Red sector beach exit) which is dedicated to the 6th Engineer Special Brigade.
As can be seen from the photographs it has been stripped of all its lettering and plaques and left to overgrow.
Can anybody share any information about this monument and the reason why it has been left forgotten ?

Re: Monument at Omaha Beach ?
Seems a new monument was rededicated in '98.
6th ESB
Presumably (hopefully) the original plaque was preserved there or elsewhere as the monument decayed.
Cheers,
Adam.

Interesting; I know the one VP flags up, but I have never seen this one. Perhaps it is indeed the original? Do you have a map ref or GPS location for it?

Here is another photo, this time of the path leading up to the monument (circled) and a map with its location arrowed.
As can be seen from the photo the surrounding area is overgrown and generally forgotten.

Thanks for that, I have found it on Google Earth using your map, and will check this out next time I am there. Most grateful for the heads up on this.

Re: Monument at Omaha Beach ?
No problem, i just hope that the monument was 'officially' stripped of all its metal work (probably expensive bronze) and not half inched by some thief !
