New 88 Thread
My dad was wounded in the south of France in WWII, serving in the Battle of The Bulge. He served in the 100th Division 397th regiment. I am fortunate that my dad, 83 yrs young now, is still with us by the grace of God. He and his sargeant, Joe Funaro were both hit by a German 88. I have always wondered what one of those looked like. Where might I find of picture of one? Is there anyone that could help me with locate one? Please email me a picture or either a link to find this german tank. Thank you ahead of time.

Re: Pictures of German 88 big gun?
Hello CJD88...
Here is a pic of an 88mm armour-piercing shell ; a very unpleasant thing to be on the receiving end of....

Re: Pictures of German 88 big gun?
Comprehensive photo survey of an '88' here:
88mm Flak 36 Walk Around Page 1
That's the kind of classic Anti-tank configuration, but 88mm weapons came in a variety of forms, both on carriages and mounted on vehicles.
Various 88's are described in this contemporary publication:
Lone Sentry: The New 88 and Its Carriages (German Panzers, 88mm Flak, Jagdpanther, Royal Tiger, Tiger II) (WWII Intelligence Bulletin)
Bear in mind that as seemingly every tank spotted was identified as a 'Tiger' then nearly every incoming shell was an '88' in the mind of the PBI.
Cheers, (and welcome)
Adam.

Spanish 88s
On 88s,
I've got a longstanding hunt on for pictures of the 88 in postwar Spanish service, It was one of the first questions that lured me into internet forums nearly 2 years ago.
Closest I've got (at least a preserved gun) was on this site:
MUSEO MILITAR DE LA CORUÑA
And an abortive attempt to find more from the Spanish Military history institute:
Instituto de Historia y Cultura Militar del Ejército de Tierra Español
(descended into internet translation and just got too peculiar... )
- I think it remained in service until late 70's, possibly even 80s.
- I'm reasonably certain it was produced under licence there, but still have no official designation to help with searches.
- I'm also pretty sure the Sd.Kfz.7 was used as a tractor, just as it was by the Germans.
I've only seen one grainy general shot of a parade with the guns in, surely there must be other clear pictures out there?
Cheers,
Adam.

You should clarify your statement by saying they were hit by plinters from an 88, if they had been hit by an 88 even Abby out of NCIS would find no DNA, no one survived been hit by a 27 kilo bullet.
