Soviet Music
I found this great web site and searched the forums if it was mentioned before. I couldn't find anything so I started this thread.
Here is where you can find hundreds of Soviet songs/marches.
SovMusic.ru - Soviet Music
or go directly to the military marches page,
SovMusic.ru - Military marches and songs
You can download files by clicking the mp3 link and than right clicking the link shown there (large or small file on your choice) and then click "save link as."

Re: Soviet Music
Thank you Kerem. These are also nice while watching small video clips or Soviet WWII propaganda fims.

Great find, Oh Grand Turk.
Russian Anthems Museum
Special section for L'Internationale
I'm sure our good American Allies will especially like this surprise. Put your speakers on LOUD and stand up!
Here's a hint

I believe Kai posted the 1943 version somewhere on the forum a couple of months ago.

Re: Soviet Music
You know, with the story of my divorce I ought to be a troubled, depressed, etc. guy, but in fact I walk on the streets freely whistling the Gimn Sovetskogo Soyuza. I am ecletic enough to make concessions so I also whistle the Halls of Montezuma, Anchors Aweigh, Horst Wessel (yes! pretty music, spoilt by rascals), Preussens Gloria, Preobraczensky March, Tipperary, etc, etc, whatever comes to my lips.
From the corner of my eye I see heads turning but I don't give a sheet, and when The Red Rabbi stares back people sudenly look the other way!

Re: Soviet Music
The Red Rabbi singing the Horst Wessel Lied, that's got to be something! Everytime I hear it it reminds me of the game"Doom". When I hear the Soviet anthem, it reminds me of the Olymlpic games of the cold war period. Funny isn't it?

Re: Soviet Music
No, no, no, no, no, you misunderstand me. "I" whistle the Horst Wessel Lied at times, The Red Rabbi just shrugs, pretends he doesn't know me, and makes some notes on a little black pocket book he carries with him.

I whistle those and Men of Harlach, too. Glad the Red Rabbi isn't close at hand.

Re: Soviet Music
But I AM getting professional help! And my shrink told me he has his office schock full of female divorcees and if he had guy like Za for each one he would lose half his clientele! (I'm entirely serious this time)
As usual, The Red Rabbi sits quietly in a corner and scribbles notes in his damned little black book!
Skip, what bloody double personalities? I'm not a schizo! Actually TRR is more provincial and he sings old revolutionary songs from his time with the 1st Cavalry Army in Tsaritsyn, with his buddies Stalin, Buddienny, Voroshilov...

Re: Soviet Music
So you are two! Now I understand . The trouble is that in the English language the word for the second person singular and plural is the same , but in old English there used to be a distincyion between "thou" and "thee". So thee arst fine now.

Re: Soviet Music
Now you understand!
But there's worse. The proper Soviet command structure is composed of a Troika:
1 - Commander
2 - Chief of Staff
3 - Political Officer
Slots 1 and 3 are filled, as you know. Trouble is I'm having a terrible difficulty in finding a suitable guy for slot 2.
For instance, in the photo below you have the Military Council of the Stalingrad Front:
Standing, from left to right: Bob Hoskins (oops, Political Off. N. Khruschev), Gen. A. Kirichenko, C.o.Staff, and Col. Gen. A. Yerememko). Sitting is the local Party secretary.

Re: Soviet Music
This is getting too skizoish for me . One soviet is ok, two or more make me think of the Gorgone. the picture is beautiful by the way. It looks like a propaganda pic taken by a professionnal photographer.
