The Nazis can sure throw a party. My favorite because if anything, they sure knew how to seduce the crowd. Good enough that it inspired George Lucas to use a similar technique in the movie Star Wars.

Re: Favourite WW2 Photo
I'm trying to come up with the name for this pic...
"Germans in Holland"?
.. or "WW2 Pusher"?
All jocking aside, that is Lieutenant Finsterwalder. He died the day after this picture was taken. War is Hell...

Re: Favourite WW2 Photo
. . .I have three (among many) to mention as my favorite WWII pictures.
1. Pearl Harbor picture of Shaw blowing up.
This evokes much emotion in anyone knowing the history of Dec. 7th and
symbolizes the resolve needed to beat the Axis.
2. The picture of the B-17 Wee Willie torn apart by flak in April, 1945.
3. The picture of the B-24, hit by flak, where the wing begins to fold up with
the resultant explosion.
These two pictures show in graphic detail just how quick things can go from
airman being "fine" to "facing an instant death".
Happy New Year to all!
Mike

Re: Favourite WW2 Photo
Was a fan of this iconic picture, the worn desperation in the German's face. "For the fuhrer!" he might say, but the war is clearly over.

My scanner is not up, so I can't show you, but my Favorite picture is Rommel inspecting Troops manning the Atlantic wall, one looks Chinese and the other is a Turban-wearing Indian!

Re: Favourite WW2 Photo
I have two favorites: The first USS Yorktown and USS Hammann both being torpedoed by the same spread. Three tracks are clearly visable. The second being a B-25B taking off from the USS Hornet for the Doolittle Raid.

Re: Favourite WW2 Photo
I'm unable to find my favorite image of the war, so describe it: It was taken during the Paris uprising in August 1944. A still from a motion picture camera taken from a window above the streets. A lone German soldier has just been shot, and a man and woman reach the body to take his weapon and ammunition. The frozen still shows the German lying there sprawled on the pavement, and the woman, on her knees, is handing the rifle to her male companion.
That scene just give me chills when I see it. A very symbolic and dramatic image.

Re: Favourite WW2 Photo
Another dramatic photo. 1944- the Japanese crew members of the aircraft carrier Zuikaku. The carrier has listed to her side and sinking, yet the crew is standing at attention saluting ther flag as it is lowered. Over half of them would go down with the ship shortly after this image was taken.
