Here in New Orleans at the National WWII Museum (I still call it the D-Day Museum), there's a new exhibit called "When Baseball Went to War." It opened November 9th during a banquet. Guest had included Bob Feller and Bobby Doerr, two baseball Hall of Famers. It included other guest of the era.
I myself am planning to take a trip (more like a short walk) down to the museum, hopefully this coming weekend to see the exhibit. I will be taking pictures of it and then will share it here when I return. From what I was told, it will focus on baseball players who joined the service, such as Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Johnny Pesky, Bobby Doerr, Bob Feller, and others. It will also display pictures and artifacts from the AAGBBL (All American Girls Baseball League).
If you've been to the Nationall WWII Museum then you know how much interesting things they have there. And if you've been recently, then you know about all the recent additions being made and the such. It's a really good museum and it's no where near finished.
Back to topic, I think it will be interesting to read about how some of that generation's sports heros even put in for the war effort, like everyone. It truely was the greatest generation. And I'm glad to be near a place that shows the history of these people, and the efforts they had done.
So look foward to some pics! I'll be sure to include some regular museum pics of other displays for those not huge on baseball.
