Can anyone identify this photo?
This is the cover photo to Gunter Koschorrek's bood "Blood Red Snow". I am trying to track down the origin of the cover photo. It is NOT identified in the book itself. I corresponded with the publisher, and believe it or not, they were not able to identify it either, except to say it came from some book only available in Germany.
Can someone identify this photo and tell me when and where it was taken? I know it's somewhere on the Eastern front, but I'm interested in the specifics.

Re: Can anyone identify this photo?
OK, no one seems to know.
Can I at least assume, that since these two Germans still have the tri-color decal on the right side of their helmets, it is a pre-1941 photo?
I've heard that the Germans were ordered to paint over the tri-color decal in 1940 and that no further new helmets were issued with the tri-color after then. Is this right?

I think that would be correct, GK.

I saw that picture before. I wish I remembered the source. I'll try to remember.

Re: Can anyone identify this photo?
you cannot assume it is not in 1943 as the tri-colour was still worn although in very breif quantities

Re: Can anyone identify this photo?
Other than likely being taken during the winter of 1941, great coats by 42 were not as common for winter wear as the clothing situation improved, and likely one of the battles along AGC's front it would be hard to place.
