Most Fascinating Events?
I'm wondering which WWII events bods such as ourselves find most fascinating.
For me the pre-war one is the Hindenburg disaster, while the war one is the whole Hess affair. Both are quite similar in being, to this day, shrouded in some mystery and both enjoying a wide range of opinions as to what really happened. The sad part being we're quite likely to never know what was really behind either.
Obviously these aren't carved in stone, often shifting with our reading lists and not just limited to events, often include personalities, inventions or highly specific pieces of kit.
So what's yours?
cheers,

Anything to do with the Battles of Stalingrad and Kursk.

I guess 'fascination' is something you keep coming back to again and again, with an interest that never really 'wears off'....
For me, that has to be the Dambusters Raid of May 1943, the fighting in and around Arnhem in September '44, and the events in the Trun/Chambois 'gap August '44.....
And on a much smaller-scale , the last flight of Avro Lancaster JB659 on the night of 30/31 January, 1944.

Re: Most Fascinating Events?
Speaking of Eben Emael, I can't positively confirm it but, I do think I have one snapshot photo of a small part of it shortly after the end of the battle. I've been trying for years now, to see if anyone can confirm that indeed, the subject in the photo is indeed, a part of that fortress system.
I don't have my photo on hand to give a better description of it but I remember that it was taken from the rear side of the defensive emplacement and has several German soldiers in it doing various activities.

Re: Most Fascinating Events?
That would be quite a valuable photo indeed, Carl! I donīt know if these were released in any books before, but otherwise it could only be verified by someone who was there, unfortunately. Hope for the best here!

Re: Most Fascinating Events?
Hi my friend, i've been trying to find out about it since I bought it-I think about 9 years ago. If I can think of it next time I make copies of anything, i'll try to remember to make you a copy of it and send it to you. The structure pictured at least to me, really looks like something from that fort, or something in the area of that fort. Unfortunately about this picture, it's one that was taken and divided up out of some album. When I saw this one up for auction, I don't remember if there were any other similar-looking pics or not? I do remember the guy who sold them as he is still selling tons of pics on ebay.
