It was just lying on the surface of the field, 'cleaned off' by the recent rainfall. Here it is, much larger than life-size ( the other object is a 9mm bullet, found close to - again - Moissy Ford )....
At the other end of the spectrum, here's one of the larger objects I found during the week. Our rented cottage was located alongside one of the three 'corridors of death', the minor road from Trun to Camembert. Vast numbers of vehicles were destroyed here by artilllery and air attack. This huge piece of 'shrapnel' was lying in a field alongside the road....
The jagged edges are still very sharp and it's obviously from a projectile. Despite being heavy, the gauge is relatively thin, and is the same from top to bottom which is unlike most large-calibre shell fragments I've found.
So - aerial rocket ? Nebelwerfer ?
