Default Normandy 2008

Just booked the first of this years trips to Normandy, commencing the end of March and in to April. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for some good spring weather, last summers trip was a wash out...

I haven't quite worked out where i'll be visiting on this particular trip, but another tour of the Falaise Gap area (St Lambert sur Dive, Moissy, Chambois etc) is a definite inclusion to the itinery. However, it won't all be battlefield tours as i plan to make another trip to the stunning Mont Saint-Michel, the last time i was there (last August) the rain was torrential and i came away looking like a drowned rat !

Thanks Jeff, in recent years we have had pretty good early spring weather in this part of the world.

I'll be taking plenty of pictures at all my stop offs.

One place i would like to visit, is the beach at Pointe Du Hoc. The only problem is it looks difficult to reach...

Scott, are there any particular places you would like photographing ?

Just thought might give some of you old Normandy hands a different angle?

Red face Re: Normandy 2008

That's a good point, and the answer is No - I haven't.

I have to confess here that the events of 1944 are so dramatic, and so well-documented, that when I'm there I get that silly kid-in-a-theme-park feeling ; there's never enough time to visit everywhere I want to see....

( And I have to do it on foot - whizzing through in a car really isn't my style )

A meeting between Martin and myself is in the pipeline. Judging by Martin's prevoius photographic efforts, i'd lose a photo duel hands down...

Skipper, any chance you can make it ? We could have a forum members meeting in Normandy...

I am quite envious! While I have agreement from my husband on a Normandy, Belgium, Holland visit eventually, I'm having to keep us from getting distracted by other possibilities first! The big trip there probably won't be before 2009 or 2010. Oh well, I'll have had more time to learn more from all you experts first! The hard part for me will be the numerous places to choose from, although as it will be following my Dad's route that should keep me in line - however, a stop at Vimy will also be required.

I'm counting the days to my trip back to Normandy, Michelle. It's not just the WW2 related sites (although they are the main reason i keep returning) that draw me back to Normandy, the sheer beauty and tranquility of the area is also a big attraction for me.

Moissy Ford is one such place, it's sometimes hard to imagine what happened there 60+ years ago.

Oh...and the cheap wine is another excuse to return to Normandy...

Fingers crossed I can include it in my trip later this month...

Where are you going in Florida? It will be miserably hot then. We go to Florida (other than the beaches) in Mar/April or late Sept/Oct. Heck, Disney World is still in the 70s in Jan. I've gone to the parks one time in high summer, will never do that again.

Southwest Florida? I didn't know Florida had a Southwest. I thought that was called the Gulf of Mexico. We call the panhandle of FL just south of Alabama, Lower Alabama. What part of the Sunshine State are you in?
