Eastern Front Battlefield Visits
My main hobby is Battlefield touring , like quite a few others on the forum and although i love visiting Normandy and the Somme in particular as someone who has always been interested in the Eastern Front i started visiting the " East "about seven years ago and now go whenever i have enough Cash !!
I've been to the Narva Battlefields in Estonia quite a few times plus Stalingrad a few times they have all been fantastic trips both socially and on the historical side.
I am going to the Crimea at the beginning of May then Kursk / Belgorod/ Kharkov at the end of August, for me being an East Front junkie it's the ultimate experience and there is plenty to see and find !! i've brought back some very interesting stuff although bringing stuff from Russia isn't always easy !!
I have a German Helmet from Pitomnik at Stalingrad and a Russian spent cartridge case from inside the Red October factory plus a damaged IAB and some Luftwaffe pottery !!
Was wondering if anyone else has visited any Eastern Front Battlefields or wants to ??? and what was your experience like if you have been ??
Have attached a couple of photos from Stalingrad , one is Ludnikov's Island showing the Volga in the background , this is how close the Germans got to taking the city !! The other is the airfield at Pitomnik.
regards
Paul

Re: Eastern Front Battlefield Visits
I suppose going to Berlin & Budapest counts doesn't it?
I was able to do some then & nows in Budapest, I'm sure I posted them here.
If not I did at the other place.
I'd love to visit Russia but I'm going to have to wait until the kids are older before doing that.

Re: Eastern Front Battlefield Visits
Unfortunately no. In fact I think I might have misled you a little. I was there at a very tender age and really dont remember much at all.....
Leningrad and Moscow on the other hand was in September of 2005. I have also been to Tallin several years ago.
As for pictures im afraid im not much help. Ill see if I can load some up on my computer.
