Sorry, Sergei Bondarchuk (War and Peace, Waterloo) went to Holywood too!

Re: I was wondering...
I guess In my first post I miss expressed myself. I didnt mean anything like a sort of "NO U" argument; per say. I was trying to point out my discression with HolyWood shoving its gut around and promoting American conflicts as "The Best" which promotes nationalism which serves no purpose in the world besides stupidity.
As well as Ostfront which was an entirely different war. As to say that it was its own thing and not really involved very much with the allies except the Lend-Lease program.
I must say the Letters from Iwo Jima was a masterpiece. It matches all the translated Japanese war stories that I have read about the battle. Flags of our fathers was awful; in my opinion.
Pearl Harbour was a bullshit love-story that only lightly mentioned the real history of the battle.
Same with enemy at the gates.

I really liked Letters from Iwo Jima as well. It's the only American war film I've seen NOT presented from the Allied viewpoint.

While not a WWII movie, I was looking forward to seeing the sequel to "Elizabeth" unitl I heard the director's comment that I wasn't concerned with historical accuracy!
Why make a movie based on history - you can't say it is because of the characters or the story if they aren't set in the context which influenced the individuals or nations actions. The same is true with World War II movies.
Thank goodness I was brought up that if a movie of any genre piqued my interest that I should immediately go to our encyclopedias or to the library to take out factual books that would provide the background or the real information that might have been missed in the movie.
Even now as I write my parent's story, I spend a lot of time on research (originally how I ended up on the Forum) because even if its not completely incorporated in the story as it was not a direct aspect of their life at the time - knowing what was occurring at the time influences how I write. I don't know how filmmakers can ignore its importance in a movie - but then sometimes we have to wonder if it is always the filmmakers choice or that of the accountants who run the studio?

Re: I was wondering...
Why? The word "Novel" comes to mind (catch -all, cop-out)...uh hem...loosely based on actual events.
Most have hit on the meat of it. Made for the biggest audience. Which is closest, and getting dumber? & younger.
Most of Hollywood, the Media, and Politics are three different paint jobs for the same "T_rd". Sorta like M&M's, except not as tasty.
TV commercials are aimed at a 9-year old intelligence. Don't ask why, you already know. It's why you find them irritating, and "mute" them whenever possible.
They're loud, irrelevant, and juvenile, but they sell. Either directly, or subliminally through pressure or harassment.
It's ALL about...Money
and it's aimed at those who fit the sign (the little dude is holding)

Re: I was wondering...
Whats even more funny is how even the movies they make from a "novel" don't even follow the novel!! I remember reading "Force Ten from Navarrone". And no where in the book was there an African American character as in the movie at all LOL.

Did the book have any pictures? No? So all of them could have been African-Americans. Even the Jerries could all be African-Germans! I've seen it all, you've joined the PC gang too.

Re: I was wondering...
It's really quite simple watch the film of the book and you already know the full story if you have read the book that is. On the other hand watch the film then read the book and as jc says people disapear as well as storylines, actual historical fact, and so on but we come back to MONEY terrible isn't it
