Default Battle for Nurenburg

On Apr 17 '45 we started the battle for Nurenburg. He "home of Nazidom in Bavaria" and almost like a Nazi shrine or holy place. The defenders just hated to give it up even after 4 days of fierce fighting. Mostly house to house, building to bubilding, a snipers paradise and they had police, firemen, young kids and old men along with regular army and S.S. troops fighting us. It was a 2 part city with the old city walled in and the newer city surrounding this.
Our casualties were quite high as were theirs. By the 20th of Apr it was finally ovev and was surrendered. The Nurenburg cold storage plant was badly hit but many cases of eggs in storage by the thousands found their way to tanks, T.D.'s trucks and jeeps. This was a joint attack with the 3rd I.D., the 42 I.D., and t he 45 I.D. working together as we did in many cases in conquering Germany. The 45 th Inf Div was like a brother outfit to us of the 3rd I.D..

This is a great story to hear. I also like how some of those eggs were liberated. Did you guys find any Wine or Schnapps to go with them?
