On July18-19 the Texas Military Museum, Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas, will offer a symposium and honor the 100/442nd Neisei RCT. The brave men of Japanese ancestry saved a battalion of the 141st Regiment of which my uncle was a memeber of. This truly was one of the most couragous stories of WW 2. The Captain of the Battalion and the Combat Medic of the 100/442 will be in attendence.
Re-enactors from France, Gerome and his friends are donating artifacts they found on the battlegrounds. They received a grant for $10,000 and FedEx is donating the shipping cost to send the original modified "belly tanks" dropped from a P-47 containg radios, medicine, food, water, etc. This and many other priceless artifacts will be donated to the Texas Museum.
Gerome is a good friend of mine and a WW 2 historian. They are flying in from France and are real excited. The folks down there in Texas are a great bunch, it will be first class. I wish I could attend but my godson is arriving that day for a 2 week visit before heading off to Iraq for the second time. I promised him smoked ribs and beer !!
If anyone should want to attend let me know. Another good friend of mine , Patti is the 36th ID moderator, and she'll make sure you feel at home.
