Thought for today (1)
I confess to not being a regular forum "greeter".
That is, I rarely bother to greet a new member to the forum relying on others to offer a welcome and perhaps thereby push up the points available for their total number of postings (said he, perhaps rather unfairly)
This doesn't stop me, however, from keeping an eye on new members and occasionally wincing at some unusual postings.
Like this morning, for instance.
A young man from Finland boldly starts by saying
Quote:
I'm new to these forums so I thought I would introduce myself.
First of all, I'm a Nationalsocialist. So if my ideological standing is not welcome here, just go ahead and ban me immediately
|
I immediately realised why I have never been asked to be a moderator.
If I was, my immediate response would probably have been "Pleased to oblige....Goodbye !"
Fortunately for the young man in question Jeff was the moderator on duty and a very courteously worded reply was given laying down the modus operandi of ww2f.
I shall be looking out for this young man's future postings with interest.
Ron

I took hope that he wanted to learn more and noted in my welcome that I hope he finds it educational. Yes, it will be interesting to see his posts and to see the reactions they solicit.
As a side note, I don't do the welcomes for the post count but know how uncertain I was when I joined and it was the friendly welcomes that made feel comfortable enough to post. Otherwise, I might never have posted anything.

Your last paragraph is excellent sir...You are right it does make a difference. It is like walking into a room of strangers, if now one steps up and introduces themselves ... one would not stick around for long.

Hi Michelle
I did say

and I was a being a little tongue in cheek
You are quite right to welcome newcomers and it was a personal pleasure to welcome your good self aboard after "meeting" you on the BBC sites.
Cheers
Ron
