I have been computing for some 23 odd years and posting to forums for about 10 of these years.

I have always been intrigued by the Avatars that people choose to represent their views and now is as good a time as ever to pose the question "What (or who) does your Avatar represent and why did you choose it ?"

To start you off, my Avatar is always a wartime pic of yours truly.

During the period October 1942 to January 1947 my wartime "Cook's Tour" took me to the following places:
North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Austria, Egypt & Germany.
My units were the: 49th Light Ack Ack Rgt.RA and
The 4th Queen's Own Hussars.

Not sure if my avatar represents anything, but I choose it for various reasons.

1. It's a fountain pen, and I love fountain pens. It's my Parker Duofold senior-size 'Big Red'.
2. I like it. It's one of the prizes of my collection.
3. Gen. Douglas McArthur used a Parker Duofold 'Big Red' to sign the Japanese instrument of surrender By all accounts, it belonged to his wife, and she lent it to him for the occasion.

I change mine every few months but the one I have at the moment is taken from a nice angle and represents an earlier model Me110 aircraft because I both like this aircraft and the shark nose art that was sometimes painted on it. Most of all I am a WWII aviation fan.

Mine is - of course - an actor ( Richard Todd ) impersonating one of my WWII 'heroes' ( Guy Gibson ).

I am and always have been fascinated by the Dams Raid but, in the same way that I'm an impostor here ( on a War Forum, even though I've never heard a shot fired in anger or worn a uniform ) I wouldn't like to use the face of the real Gibson as my avatar.

Oh, and finally - I just like the picture.....

My avatar is a U.S. Model of 1911 cal. .45 pistol, shipped from the Colt factory November, 1917. It reflects my interest in military sidearms of the world wars. I have a Mills magazine pouch and Warren holster, both dated 1918, to accompany.

The pistol is one of my favorites from my small collection, and is an example of the design genius of John M. Browning.

My avatar is a painting depicting an SBD Dauntless diving on the Japanese carrier Akagi at the Battle of Midway on June 4th., 1942. I chose it because my father was a naval aviator who, in the early days of the Pacific War, flew SBD's off the USS Enterprise and participated in that battle.

I have been associated with the university for 33 years. I try to maintain the same name and avatar on all the forums I frequent.

My avatar is the symbol for the 97th Jäger Division. One of my relatives served with this unit, so it is a small tribute.

I posted a similar question back in June . Maybe the Mods can combine the two threads? . Mine is quite simple. My favorite movie and myself in my Civil war uniform.

Mine is the only photo I have of my grandfather in uniform. It shows him and his buddies at the Tahiti Cafe in National City, CA after the war.

Mine's Chad, or Kilroy as most folk have adopted the American version. Wanted something historical, which wasn't already here and also that wasn't a piece of kit.

Mine is ever changing, mostly depending on my mood. My mood right now is to work my way through divisional patches of the United States Army during the war. Right now it is the 82nd, but that is about to change.
