Question US brass -where were they?

The brass:
General Troy Middleton US VIII Corps
General Bradley US 12th Army Group
General Leonard US 9th Armored Div
General Eisenhower Supreme Commander

The date:
Wednesday 8th November 1944

The question:
Does anyone have any hard and fast reliable source for where they all were?

cheers,

On page 362 of General Patton by Hirshson, there is a photo of all 4 together on November 8, 1944 but it does not indicate where the photo was taken. You might want to contact the Eisenhower Center in Abilene, Kansas. They might be able to give you an answer via e-mail.

Very sharp DG, very sharp indeed.

Charles Whiting suggests, in "West Wall" (1999) that photo was taken at, or near, Wiltz in Luxemburg. He also claims there's no official public record of this meeting, nor what was being discussed. I was wondering if this was still the case.

I am currently reading General Ike, written by Ike's son. I have not yet found a mention of November 8, 1944 but I shall keep looking. I have a general interest in Ike these days so I'll continue to rummage about!

Cheers!

I'm looking for information, and while I haven't found anything re where, there are various possibilities as to why:

"November 8, 1944 -- Roosevelt wins the U.S. Presidency for a fourth term. Democrats gain in the House."

also, it is the date that the last troops at Walcheren Island surrendered, thereby freeing the port of Antwerp to increase the transfer of materiel to the Allied Forces.

and it was exactly 2 years after the American troops landed in North Africa.

Also, Ike and Bradley were not with Patton but they were apparently together at 7:45am on November 8, 1944 because Bradley and Ike called Patton to confirm the commencement of Patton's advance to Metz. This is noted on page 166 of War as I Knew It (George S. Patton, Paul Donal Harkins).

Chad,

I dont see why you think it would be strange for them to be together on this date, or anyother date. Could you enlighten us a little on where you are coming from?

Sure tikilal. I don't think it's strange for them to be together at all. What I do find strange is there's apparently no released record of them having this meeting, nor what they were discussing. This I find odd as there's usually a pile of records about just about everything any one of these officers might have done during the war. Charles Whiting asserts this in "West Wall", although that was published in '99, and so further records may have been released since then.

It's a vital time in the war, and so I think it's quite curious.

Chad -- I got a quick and full response from The Eisenhower Center. Here is what I learned:

Thank you for your inquiry. Gen. Eisenhower spent the night of Nov. 7
at 12th Army Group Headquarters. On Nov. 8 he was accompanied by Gen.
Omar Bradley. On the 8th he visited the 9th Armored Div., 8th Infantry
Div., where he met Gen. Middleton, the 2nd Inf. Div., the 9th Inf. Div.,
the 5th Armored Div. He crossed the German border near Roetgen and
visited the 28th Inf. Div. where he met Gen. Hodges and V Corps where he
saw Gen. Gerow. He spent the night of the 8th at 9th Army HQ at
Maastricht. This information was compiled by researchers from Johns
Hopkins University while they were working on the publication, The
Papers of Dwight David Eisenhower: The War Years. This entire
publication is now available on-line at the following web site
www.eisenhowermemorial.org .

Hope that helps!

I agree. The more I read about him, the more impressed I become. Ike is one of my favorite 20th Century figures.

That is a reasonable question. I was just missing that bit.

Great find, still no mention of meeting notes.
