Default Civilian witnesses of WWII

On our tour we meet civilian people who witnessed WWII in different way. Questions about them or new stories are welcome.

A funny story:

One of our witnesses, Mrs. Jeanyne Lot lived in a house 875 yards from Utah Beach. Here house was the first house to get liberated on D-Day. It took the allies 1h30min to liberate a distance of 875 yards.
She told told us alot of stories about this event. One funny event is the fact that the French had never seen deep frozen food (they were given some deep frozen chicken by an American GI), also it was the first time in her life she tasted chewing gum. The Americans were really more advanced than the Europeans.
