I could be wrong, but i think it was SS-Oberscharfuehrer Roy, of the 12th SS Panzer Div.
He knocked out about 36 tanks before being shot by an American sniper in the Ardennes.

That is pretty sad, the (possible) tank ace of the axis forces is killed by a sniper, rather than by another tank.

actually he ws part of a Jagdpanzer IV crew not a Jagdpanther. The only W-SS formations I am aware of are were on the Ost front and that being 5th SS Wiking and possibly 10th SS Frundsburg in 1945 operating the Jagdpanther and I think it was Heer crews in Wiking as the Jagdpanthers were not an integral part of that W-SS Panzer Division...

Yes Erich, you are right. I'm not sure about the highest scoring Jagpanther ace, i will do a little research and see what comes up.
Still, 36 kills is pretty impressive !

It was more likely someone like Albert Ernst (aka "The Tiger of Vitbsk") who served in first, Nashorns and then went to Jgpz VI Jadgtigers. He had 54 kills by late 43. He formally surrendered his command (KG Ernst / 1/512 S. Pzjr Abt) at Iserlohn in the Ruhr pocket in 45 and survived the war.
I would also agree with Erich that it was almost certainly someone in the Heer as all of the heavier Jadgpanzer were Heer troops.

Martin, Roy is famous for the hunt or defence of the Normandie brush against a Polish armored speer along with 2 other Pz Jagd IV's or at least the small kompanie-battalion. I do believe short barrel 75mm as the long barrel came into service in the Ardenne. Will hunt down more unless someone beats me first.
T.A. thanks for the add-on about the Jagdpz commander......
