Lothar Machtan, a historian living in Bremen, has just published a book arguing that the "Führer" was gay. Amazing, I only wonder why nobody thought of that before. What do y'all think of this?

Does he have any evidence. There is a series running in the UK called the most evil men in histort. This weeks was on Hitler, and they as good as called him a child molester, saying he had affairs with a number of youg girls. By young i mean late teens. As for gay, i do not think he was.
Andreas, nice to see you at On War

Naturally he has 'evidence' or at least so I presume. AFAIK, he has interviewed people who knew him when he wasn't famous yet or slept with him or something. However the news site I got this off has already removed the article, so I don't know whether this was actually ever true.

I remember reading an article about that a long time ago in the weekly world news. I think someone posted it on the forum too. It was very funny.

It amazes me that anyone thinks this would make any difference, one way or another.
Surely it can't possibly discredit the man any more than he already is. I guess there are probably people out there who can accept the Rassenkreig and the Final Solution and the rest of it, but who would draw the line at him being gay. But anyone who would even factor this in to an evaluation of Hitler's moral status has their priorities totally torqued.
Or perhaps, proving Hitler was gay might somehow discredit other gay people? Like, "Look at them drag queens, Martha! Disgusting! Next thing you know, they'll be annexing the Sudetenland!"

When people question Hiler's sexuality it is not to knock on gay's at all. Plus it does have alot to do with hitler in gerneral being that hitler's policies condemed and persecuted gays. So thus if people found out that hitler was gay...that makes for some interesting conversation.

Ron, you took the words right out of my mouth - Hitler had gays gassed all across Europe. And he may have been one himself? Was he trying to cover up all evidence of his sexuality in this "final solution"? There is a theory that people always try very hard to cover up what they considor flaws in their personality (like being illiterate for example). Being gay is a typical one, I would say.
This may be a motive for some of what happened, this certainly doesn't discredit anyone.
