Does anyone know where the phrase "excuse my french" came from? I have a hunch it is a WW2 thing but i am most likely wrong.

I dont know, but I get a good laugh when I hear it used.

I actually do-when the British were fighting the French all those years ago, when someone spoke uncultured-like, teh British would say "excuse my French" because they used this as a verbal assault to suggest that teh French were moronic and docile beings!!!! hehehe
