Hallo, gentlemen!
What can you say about 201 Squadron?
Do you know it?
It fought in the ETO with a normal average, not too good, but they are the pride of a country...
If you do not I will post it later... Try to guess!

Did some research and found a Mexican squadron but it fought in the Pacific theater so I don't think it is the same. I would guess it being some kind of South American country like Bolivia or Chile.

From what I can find they saw combat in the Phillipines. Out of 31 pilots they lost 5.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
You are all wrong!
Squadron 201 of the Mexiacan Air Force (FAM) was formed in Mexico in 1942 after in 1942 president General M.Ávila Camacho declared war on Germany, Italy and Japan in May 28th because Doenitz's submarines sunk several Mexican tankers in the Gulf of Mexico. General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río organised the armed forces of the country. There were borrowed or bought (I am not sure) 100 P-47 and 80 pilots were trained and sent to the Pacific.
Certainly they did not achieved much because they were asigned dive-bombardment missions. They shot down 11 Japanesse aeroplanes and 12 men were killed.
Now, there are some 20 veterans still alive who are very respected. Perhaps those 68 pilots were some of the very few officers and soldiers who ever saw action in this peaceful countries' armed forces (beside those who fought in the revolution).
But they showed that they can fight! Even if they are a peaceful and very kind people (actually they have treated my family and me very, very well)...

My mistake, gentlemen!
I am very sorry of having posted that. I hate looking like an idiot but I have got to accept this time I did!
I watched a programme in the telly some two years ago about the most important days in Mexican history of the 20th century and there was mentioned May 28th 1942, the day mexico declared war on Axis powers. Because there were several ships sunk by U-boats in Mexiacn coasts. Those were:
“Potrero del Llano” sunk by U-564 Kapitänleutnant Suhren
“Faja de Oro” sunk by U-106 Kapitänleutnant Rasch
“Tuxpan” sunk by U-129 Kapitänleutnant Witt*
“Las Choapas” sunk by U-129 Kapitänleutnant Witt*
“Oaxaca” sunk by U-171 Kapitänleutnant Pfeffer
“Amatlán” sunk by U-171 Kapitänleutnant Pfeffer
*U-129 was attacked and damaged by Major Luis Noriega Medrano in an AT6 “Texan”
What I didn't remember was where exactly the squadron fought. It was two years ago, when I did not speak very good Spanish... beside there is my Alzheimer
After that the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force was created and its commander in chief was brigadier general Luis Alamillo Flores.
And then, you were right! Squadron 201 of MEAF was attached to Comabat Group 58 of USA's 5th Air Force. This squadron fought in the Phillipines, Formosa and very little in Okinawa.
What was right were the 11 enemy aeroplanes which were shot down and the 12 pilots who were killed.
Also, the squadron performed some 400 missions and flew a lot of hours.
I promise not to make any mistakes as big as that. But I was right in some things, didn't I?

Friedrich--did you know that the Mexican military also had an Artillery Battalion also in the Pacific theatre? My Uncle served nere tham at one time. It was his memory of having Enchiladas, Rice and Refried beans along with Red Chili Peppers and Mexican beer--that he liked to talk about.
