This 17 yr old was killed on at 00:16, 6th June, 1944 defending the Benouville Bridge from the Allied glider troops. He was the first German troop killed in direct defence of Festung Europa. I think thats one fro the archives...

Well, I think the first US casualty in the ETO was a Ranger in the Dieppe raid, but I can't remember his name. I'm not sure about "allied" though.

Lieut Den Brotheridge of the Oxs & Bucks Light Infantry attached 6th Airborne Division is often accepted as the first "allied" D Day casualty. He was cut down at the head of his men, crossing Pegasus Bridge, and is buried in Ranville Churchyard.

Aha, thanks for the link Ryan and Sommecourt thanks for the info.
PS, Ryan--got your info and will try to have it out for you in a few days. Nothing special but thought you might like it anyway. It has something to do with an interest of yours, but not exactly. Do I now make even less sense?
