Although Germans were ahead almost in everything ( or were they? Lucky as well?! ) I do think the Russians would have done better if they had been prepared for the German attack, and as well had a huge army with some 20 000 tanks, most of which however obsolete.
Stalin´s order not to fight at the beginning of Barbarossa as well as his order not to make one step back were awful mistakes that lead the Red army into crises. He destroyed Russia by himself almost.
And even if the best officers were killed 1938-1940 and replaced by commissars they still had a huge army to use, thanx to trotski who built it.

So even if otherwise I agree with you guys I do think the Russians had the most formidable army as the war started ( even in 1939 ).
