Just something that came along the way.

Just read on Jorma Sarvanto, a Finnish pilot, who scored six bombers in 4 minutes in Winter War.

http://www.angelfire.com/darkside/wo...o/finland.html

He was well lucky but everything counts.

On his Fokker D.XXI FR-97 near Utti he managed to score six Iljushin DB-3 bombers in 4 minutes, as they were on their way to Kuopio.
The planes had tanks dangerously empty, and no rubber protection. Also no enemy fighters around.
The planes simply exploded as he hit the oil tanks.

So, just curious and eager to hear same kind of events. Tell about it here:

Ok. Let´say preferably daytime and fighter-to-bomber.Fighter-to-fighter is ok.Any nationality will do.
But anything really amazing is worth hearing...I let you guys decide on that part!

Well I think we know the exploits of the STar of Afrika pretty well but in one case, and really not that fast but on September 1, 1942 it is reported that Marseille shot down 11 P-40's and 1 Spitfire from 8.26 to 8.39, refuelled and rearmed then from 10.55 to 11.05 took out the rest....on June 3, 1942 he shot down 6 P-40's from 12.22 to 12.33 ! A deadly marksman. And these are only 2 accounts

Speaking of this, this reminds me to let you know Erich--that if your interested, I know where you can get a nice and I think it is a Night Fighters Clasp in Bronze--for about $190.00.

Holy cow ! send me a private on this my friend ! would love to grab one of those and the price is sure fair if it is original !!

I will post more tomorrow from Oskar Romm either on the what happened today thread or here. He shot down 3 B-24's of the 445th fighter group in a matter of minutes. He made a perfect bounce as it was most common for the heavy Fw 190A-8/R-2 pilots to only score one if that, or be shot down as they zoomed through the formation.. Dang it I wish I had a computer as I would love to put some cine film on this site. Pretty bloody ugly footage of US bombers getting the crap kicked out of them !

I don't know too much about this but I am looking forward for further comments.

BTW, didn't you say at some thread over there that Marseille's claims were a little unexact? Anyway, he was a great pilot.

Great pic F ! Looks as to be one of Marsielle's victims ? Could of been actually the Luftwaffe's most skilled pilot as he knew the ins and outs of his 109's. It does help too to have an excellent wingman by your side and he had several. There has and will always be debate over his successive kills since he had so many days where he scored more than 3 each day. I have given all of you a little sample and there is more....Lt. Arnold Stahlschmidt of Stab I./JG 27 shot down 3 martin 167's in 10 minutes S.E. of Tobruk on November 20, 1941. On February 12, 1942 H.J. Marseille shot down 4 P-40's in 6 minutes north and west of Tobruk and another 2 P-40's in 3 minutes on the 15th of the same month and year.
I can easily think of several noted Luftwaffe aces on the Ost Front, those like Rall and Barkhorn as well as the famous E.Hartmann, Walter Schuck, and the list goes on. Will have to look for great particulars to enter soon.

Found a couple of sites as well on that battle I mentioned:

http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/sarva/sarva.htm

http://www.world.std.com/~Ted7/sfinn1.htm

http://www.saunalahti.fi/~fta/finace92.htm

It says it was a world record of its time. Did somebody make it better?

Intersting links the last bunch as I have helped two of the webmasters with info from the Luftwaffe actions......

going back to "what happened today" topic. 27 September 1944. I mentioned the gruppe IV.Sturm/JG 3. Here is the action report in brief form given by Leutnant Oskar Romm of 15.Sturm/JG 3, as staffelkapitän. He scored 3 B-24's/ at 11.06 - two of them and 1 at 11.07 hours.

The combat formation was led towards the enemy formation by the ground radio station. After a visual contact was established in the air, the leader of the combat formation was given clearance to attck.
As the squadron leader of the 15th squadron I had a good tactical position within the combat formation and attacked a flight of three bombers.
Just like during my first downing of a four engine bomber over Oschersleben(B-24) on 7-7-44, my approach for the attack was divided into three actions, going off real quick. First to fire into the fuselage to hit the machine gun positions, then hit the pilot's compartment, and finally to hit and set fire to two engines on one side of the a/c.( in reality Oskar shot out the tail gunners position first).......
I first attcked in the manner described above/the bomber on the left position of the flight, then the one on the right and lastly the leading B-24 of the flight. I then pulled up in a steep turn and, while flying over them, observed them going down, spinning, burning, and the breaking off of wings in the area of the burning engines.
The film from my gun cameras showed the downing, demonstrating in an appalling way the location of the hits and the effect of the shots on the three a/c. The most devastating damage was done by the 2 Mk 108 3cm weapons. I opened up aerial combat first by firing the two 13mm cowl mg's, then the two 20mm guns and between less than 400 metres and ramming distance, with all six guns firing off short bursts........Oskar Romm

Well hopefully it will be there still ? sure wish we had access to scanners as this would open up other possiblities for all of us. I see maybe only 1-2 guys on the boards that are able to thrill us with their pics.

more on the deadliest pilot tomorrow for the 28 Septemeber 44......another mean defensive effort by the Luftwaffe.

One great Finnish ace:

Hans "Hasse" Wind - René Fonck of WW2

Wind's final score was 75, making him the No. 2 ace in FAF. Yet most of his scoring happened during the summer of 1944:30 victories in 12 days.

"After destroying of 5 Pe-2 s on 13 June 1944, the incredible series of Wind's kills was continued in following days: 15 June - 1 P-39 + 1 IL-2M; 16 June - 2 Pe-2 + 1 La-5; 19 June - 2 P-39 + 1 La-5 (flown by a Hero of Soviet Union, major A.V. Zhirkov). Now Wind was flying a brand new G-6, "MT-439". The plane was still under German insignia because there was no time to painting work.

20 June 1944 there was the toughest day of the war in the air. FAF Messerschmitts (30 aircraft) flew 126 missions, were engaged in 13 air battles in which 49 victories were scored, without losses. This day "Hasse" add to his scoreboard 2 La-5s + 2 Yak-9s + 1 Pe-2. Two days later (on 22 June) he got 2 Spitfires + 1 La-5; next day - 2 La-5s + 2 DB-3Fs; on 25 June - 3 Yak-9s + 2 Yak-7s."
