Michele Rubenstein is an unknown quantity at this point
I am the daughter of a WWII vet, my father. He never talked about his experience, but I am going to Normandy to visit and would like to try to find out what unit he was with and whatever other information I can get. The National Archives will get me the info under FOIA, but that takes forever and I would like it in the next 30 days. Does anyone know where I can go to find out? All I know is his name, I have his SSN but not his service number, he came in on Omaha on D3, his unit brought in hospital supplies, and at some point he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Stevin Is actually quite decentStevin Is actually quite decent
Hello Michele,

Based on the info you gave that might indeed be hard. You could try the National Personell Records Center. See this link for the address and maybe some more addresses that might be helpful. http://www.armyairforces.com/addresses.asp This site is about the US Army Air Forces but some of these addresses will be helpfull for Army people too.

However, getting the required information might take longer than 1 month.

Do you, by any chance have pictures of your dad on which patches and/or insignia's might be seen? Or perhaps you have documents relating to his military service? Any might contain clues to the ID of his unit. If not directly, then perhaps indirectly.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Stevin

This is not a big help but hopefully a start. Maybe you´ll find more info here. The troops that landed on Omaha and something more.

Michelle: (It is good to have a lady around here. I was getting tired of playing the most girlylike already...)

Have you tried to contact the US war department or some veteran associations which might help you? I don't really know much about the USA armed forces but I wish you that you could find it.
