It is as good as they say it is????
Let me know your opinion.

It is the most REALISTIC submarine movie ever made, Period!!. Nothing even compares, in my opinion.
No cheesy hollywood script here....no run silent run deep, where american sailors are playing cards and drinking coffee while japanese destroyer's depthcharge them. Das Boot is the real deal.
It ranks in the top 3 of my all time favorite films.

Das Boot is a good film and totally outranks the likes of U-571 by a mile.

Excellent war movie, the only fake thing I saw was the aircraft used in the attack at the end.
You can also use the search engine Google and put in The Boat or Das Boat and read about the movie and the models used to film it all, plus what the actors had to go through to film it. They could not go out in the sun during the filming in order to make them look pale like real submariners. They also had to do real drills over and over again to make it look real.

Even if this thread shouldn't be here I must say that "Das Boot" is one of the best war films, EVER! Wolfgang Petersen should have won the Oscar for sure! It's very, very dramatic and real.

I just happened to see this for the first time yesterday (yes, pathetic, I know). I must agree it was in my all time best movie list immediately. It's outstanding, almost beyond description. I saw the directors cut with 60 additional minutes. I don't think I moved the entire time.

Besides all the praise, has anyone noticed any discrepancies or falsehoods about the movie?

The aircraft at the end are wrong.
