Gents,

The enigma that still might have lingered after our discussion about the spelling of the word "Serjeant" can be laid to rest.

Today I received a reply from Mrs. julie Somay of the Commenwealth War Graves Commission:

Quote:
Concerning our spelling of Sergeant: "Serjeant" spelt with a "J" is peculiar
to the British and New Zealand armies and is used in connection with those
services only. The British army did not change its spelling to "Sergeant"
with a "G" until November 1953. As we commemorate those who died during the
two world wars only, the "Serjeant" spelling is historically correct.
I hope that this will clarify the situation for you.
It certainly does....

Stevin

God bless the CWG, I have wondered about that for ages. Thought it was something of the kind. See, they may not reply immediatly but they do eventually.

DUCE is an unknown quantity at this point
Post

Until then Freidrich.

If you read the quote again, it says how they changed it to being spelt with a "G" in 1953 as a way to recognize those who lost their lives in the World Wars.
