Hey breaking news! Robert D. Ballard has found JFK's PT-109. Sheesh he could find that little thing but couldn't find even 1 of 4 japanese carriers at midway! Oh well! Click HERE for a little blurb on it.

@ Ron....I was thinking the exact same thing when I read this news. A PT109 is made out of wood, it said in my news source. How has he been able to find the thing!? Can't wait till the National Geograpic Doc. in November....

I find that VERY strange because......PTs were made of plywood. I would have thought that the plywood would have rotted away long ago--but I suppose anything is possible.
Next thing you might hear is that they found a "copy" of the famous coconut in the PTs hull. I know, I know--its on display in a museum--just kidding.

I notice the latest CNN update ( July 10 ) says that Ballard can only identify some deck fittings, a torpedo tube and torpedo at a depth of 1200 ft. They're working on the assumption that this is the only documented PT-boat loss in the area.

I heard that the transmission was in Neutral when they found it, further bolstering the theory that the ship was just bobbing around before it got hit. My uncle skipperd a PT, and the generally accepted scuttlebutt was that Kennedy was asleep when the accident happened.
