Belgians' persistence leads to discovery
of graves of U.S. soldiers killed in WWII.

It was here in the Monschau Forest, on the north shoulder of the Battle of Bulge, that soldiers from Company C of the 395th Infantry Regiment fought, died and were buried during some of the fiercest fighting of World War II.

Since the opening days of the Battle of Bulge in December 1944, forest mulch and 56-year-old battlefield debris have covered these unmarked GI graves.

"Nobody knows how many missing soldiers on both sides are still buried in this forest," said David Roath, director of the U.S. Army Memorial Affairs Activity Europe in Landstuhl, Germany.

Interesting post Kai, Thanks.

In Holland, MIA's are found once in a while. Usually when they dig up a plane. Sometimes a farmer or somebody comes across remains in a foxhole. Usually along the rivers which marked the frontline late '44, early '45.

Glad that these remains can be put to rest now...

Off Topic: Did you see Jari's magnificent goal last night in the CL game against AS Roma? He IS something else!

Stevin,

Houllier must be going crazy by now after letting Jari go....
I think Liverpool has got 1 point out of 15 possible of their latest matches...Even though they got Sami Hyypiä, another great Finn...Too bad they gave Jari away!

Yeah, great goal but that´s what he´s all about!
Jari=God....

Mr. Kia-Petri,

Thanks for posting that address. I just sent it to a friend of mine that had to be very close to those three men as he fought in and survived the Battle of the Bulge in the 99thID. I'll tell you later what he says in reply.....

I'm glad these men will get a proper resting place. The four "diggers" who are responsible deserve respect and support.

Great post Kai!
